Danny Widdicombe - 'Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain' - single launch Share

Danny Widdicombe - 'Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain' - single launch Share

There are three reasons for this night of celebration. First and foremost, it’s Willie Nelson’s birthday. Secondly, this night is a celebration of Danny Widdicombe releasing his version of the song Willie Nelson made famous - ‘Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain’. Thirdly, Willie’s version of the song, and Danny himself turn 50 this year.

‘Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain’ was the cornerstone piece from Willie Nelson’s concept album ‘Red Headed Stranger’. Originally composed by Fred Rose, Willie’s version of the song went on to become a number one hit around the world in 1975. On a snowy London Christmas night later that same year, Danny Widdicombe was born into the world.

Danny is a Brsbane based musician who has dedicated his life to making music of varying genres, with a wide variety of people, over a very long period of time. His latest collaboration is with his new band The Wand’rin’ Stars made up of Michel Rose (pedal steel), Luke ‘Fiddleboy’ Moller (fiddle, mandolin, vocals), Brendan St. Ledger (piano), Gus Fewick (bass), and Doug Gallagher (drums). The Wand’rin’ Stars and Danny got together at Alchemix Studio in Sth Brisbane in early 2025 to record some new original songs as a live performance. Included as an encore in the set was a version of the tune written by Fred Rose, ‘Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain’. Although not composed by Willie Nelson, the song is generally thought of as belonging to him, and Danny’s new version is a nod to the great Willie Nelson who is about to turn 92 on 29th April.

2025 also marks 30 years of Danny living with leukaemia and all its complications - he’s more machine than man these days after the assault of decades of treatment. Loving music more and more every year, Danny is excited to bring his version of ‘Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain’ into the world at the community minded venue The Cave Inn - the perfect place to celebrate a life in music.

Tickets are through Humanitix.

The Gabba Jamboree featuring Mt Morning, Canyon Creek & Tin Star

The Gabba Jamboree featuring Mt Morning, Canyon Creek & Tin Star

MT. MORNING is the new incarnation of the band Suicide Swans who throughout their 8-year, 5 studio albums, 1 EP and 1 live album mined the landscape of alt-country, folk, and rock. In Mt. Morning the four members will start a new chapter with Kristian, Ben, Glen and Kyle continuing the same mining of alt-country, folk, country but looking at delving and being more open to indie rock, pop, sound scapes, and any other type of music that interests them collectively.

MT. MORNING will continue their DIY focus and the drive to embrace, whatever sonic interest that comes their way. The band are currently working on their first release as Mt. Morning entitled ‘Idles Aches’ that will further push their on stage performances that brings their own distinct sound that is situated within the kind of raw ethos that lies at the heart of their 1960s/70s - combining rock, alt-country and folk mixed with 90’s indie-rock that reflects the tastes of all four members, capturing in its glory a band confident, pushing a sound with a distinctive potency that is all their own.

Canyon Creek makes country music for people that don’t like country music, from alt-country to 40’s inspired western tunes and most stops in between. The band features some old hands of the Brisbane music scene, including Daz Gray (The Good Ship, D.G. Gray & Co.), Clint Morrow (Reverb Springs, Thirteen Seventy, The Good Ship), Jay Varudo (Albany Expression, The Vultures), Dan Grant (Tin Star, Doubting Thomas) & Cath Bell (Tin Star, Spot the Dog) and whoever else can play in the key of G. Daz combines his love of 3 minute catchy pop songs with the heartfelt emotional story songs of the country music of his youth to produce tearjerkers that you'll be tapping along to in no time.

Brisbane trio Tin Star have been doing their musical mash up together for quite a few years now - part folk, part rock, part Americana, but always very much originals in the song department. They have soaring vocals and 3-part harmonies to rival the Von Trapps, a one man rhythm section, one of the best fiddle players you’ll ever hear, and a passable egg shaker. Most of all they have plenty of original songs that weave stories with heart and humour.

You’ve probably heard them around town and beyond at the folk clubs and festivals, or on their 2019 album A Better Way To Do Things.  A new live recording Granville Street Sessions is due for release soon, and will be releasing their latest single 'The Devil Himself'.

Dan Grant: Vocals, Acoustic  Guitar

Penny Boys: Vocals, Banjo, Trumpet, Percussion

Cathy Bell: Harmony Vocals, Fiddle, Accordion

For songs she wrote at the age of thirteen, she had already earned two Queensland Music Award nominations. In 2022, Ella took a bold step, moving nearly 2,000 kilometres from her hometown to pursue a full-time music career at just nineteen. Having performed since the age of twelve, she has shared stages with some of Australia’s most prominent artists, including Neil Murray, Kim Churchill, Ash Grunwald, Boo Seeka, Full Flower Moon Band, and the beloved Black Image Band and Roadtrippers from her hometown region.

Stelle's "Have To Get Older" Launch Show

Celebrate Stelle's newest release "Have To Get Older" at the Cave Inn Wooloongabba on Thursday 10 April, following the single release on 3 April. Stelle, the 20-year-old rising star from the Scenic Rim, Queensland has been captivating audiences around Ipswich, Brisbane, and the Scenic Rim from the age of 16. Influenced by artists like Missy Higgins, Maggie Rogers and Gracie Abrams, Stelle's music is a vibrant blend of indie, pop, and folk.

Having recently performed at the renowned Long Sunset Festival in November 2024 alongside big names such as Matt Corby and Angie McMahon, and opening for Gold Coast award-winning artist "Lyric" in 2023, she's making her mark in the big world of music.

Stelle’s new dreamy indie-pop track “Have To Get Older” produced by Dion Shaw out of Brisbane, reflects on the bittersweet nature of growing up. The singer/songwriter captures the feeling of nostalgia and the fast pace of time, along with the complexities of getting older. As time moves too fast, introspective anthem invites listeners to pause and reflect on how different, and at times easier, life seemed in earlier years. This single marks another step in Stelle’s evolution as an emerging voice in the Australian music scene.

Special GuestsGeorgia Betts - Listen here

With velvety vocals and soulful songwriting, folk musician, Georgia Betts, takes listeners on a journey. Guitar in hand, Georgia crafts songs that are both deeply personal and universally relatable. Influenced by the likes of Chris Stapleton and Fleetwood Mac, her music blends these inspirations into a unique and compelling sound.Georgia began her journey busking at markets across Queensland, cultivating a deep connection with audiences. Georgia's recent singles showcase her reflective lyricism and dynamic range with her debut album set for release on the 23rd of May.

Steve Mondel - Listen here

Steve Mondel is an Americana-style country folk artist based in Tulmur/Ipswich Queensland, Australia. Drawing on an upbringing spanning from Wagga to Perth and many places in between, Steve's music is inspired by the challenges of outer suburb life and the stories of love and reluctant participation in the daily grind. Cutting his teeth in the Brisbane indie rock scene in the 2010's with Born Joy Dead and playing around as a session bassist, focus has now landed on writing music for the love of writing music.
